THEME: Collectively, we must save our youths!

ABSTRACT: The growing threat of substance abuse and addiction among the youth is a matter of grave concern that demands the immediate attention and intervention of all well meaning individuals, organizations and governments. Understanding that educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping the mindset and behavior of students, we believe that joining forces with Universities and Student bodies will enable us to create a comprehensive and holistic campaign to combat substance abuse effectively. It is upon this premise that the Anti Substance Abuse Convention was conceptualized. The maiden edition, in 2023, is slated to hold on the main campus of the Lagos State University (LASU).

Raising awareness, providing information, and fostering a drug-free environment within the university campus. By utilizing a multifaceted approach involving interactive presentations, engaging lectures by renowned experts, counseling sessions, and powerful visuals, we aim to address the issue from various angles, including prevention, early intervention, and rehabilitation.

Encouraging the establishment of the culture and structure that supports the campaign against substance abuse by setting up student bodies that would play the role of carrying on follow up advocacy and support activities subsequent to the ASAC.

Fostering a culture of support, empathy, and education among the students, equipping them with knowledge and skills to make informed decisions regarding drug abuse prevention and suggesting appropriate support mechanisms for those affected.

Highlighting the crucial need for policymakers, educators, parents, and society at large to work collaboratively to promote evidence-based interventions and public health campaigns to minimize the detrimental effects of substance abuse on youth, ensuring a healthier and brighter future for generations to come.

Empowering the students with the requisite knowledge and information to take a firm stand against engaging in substance abuse, and to create a strong platform that could form the vanguard for the campaign against substance abuse in the larger society.
